Lorie Kayler

I have always been about organizing things. I earned a Master’s Degree in Public Health Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill while employed at the State of NC’s Office of Rural Health. Lorie KaylerFor five years, I worked with community boards and staff to operate health centers in needy areas. When my husband, Claude, finished his seminary training and was appointed to a two-point charge in Charlotte, I decided to “retire” and stay at home after our first child was born. Some of the health centers I used to work with began calling, claiming I had nothing to do but take care of a baby, a husband, and a few churches, so I should have plenty of time to do their grantwriting. I agreed, and have operated a home-based grantwriting business for 18 years. The business has grown to serve community health centers in nine states, and I now lead a team of five other grantwriters that I’ve recruited over the years.

I’ve enjoyed finding a place to minister in the churches where Claude has served. These have included a variety of settings and worship styles: a two-point charge, a new church plant, a high steeple big city church, a rural community church, and a contemporary church. I have led children’s and youth programs, overseen multi-church mission projects, and led Bible study groups. At one church, I was part of a team that implemented a new contemporary service. At our current church, I am actively involved in the worship design team, and there helped to implement the Main Thing planning process that the Network uses. Music ministry has been a constant in my life—from high school to the present. And then there are the years of priceless experience editing and critiquing my husband’s sermons! ;)
